Description:  The Finance Committee meets regularly on the first Monday night of each month to transact regular business.  Additionally the Finance Committee works closely with the eldership in developing a budget during November and December of each year.  Once an annual budget has been approved, extra-budgetary expenditures of any significance must go before the Finance Committee for discussion and/or approval.  Exceptions occur in the ministries that have standing allocations made to them as a result of the November/December budgetary process:   Building and Grounds, Education, Lads to Leaders, Fellowship, Missions, Benevolence, Mass Media, Office.  Individuals needing checks for other reasons will usually need to go through the Finance Committee or Benevolence instead of contacting the Finance deacon directly. After the budget-setting activity at the end of the year, Finance is mostly concerned with accounting, not discretionary purchases.

Presently the Dover Church of Christ has no standing indebtedness.  It owns its building and grounds, office and audio-visual equipment, and a van.    The Finance Committee frequently monitors the congregation’s stewardship in the use of God’s resources that we are being allowed to use.
