This year at Dover, Bible reading has really caught on. Very likely our implementation of Lads to Leaders/Leaderettes has had something to do with it. Quite a few of us are reading either the Old Testament or the New Testament through in a year. Below, courtesy of Sister Charlene Clark, are several plans and pointers for reading either testament through in a year. There are advantages to having both a verse-by-verse study of the Bible and a rapid-reading study. The verse-by-verse study helps us grasp the details. But the rapid-reading program, such as illustrated below, also helps us grasp the bigger picture of what God's word is saying to us. It helps us avoid the "missing the forest for all the trees" problem inherent in having only verse-by-verse studies of the scriptures. A rapid-reading program in which we read a testament in a year or less helps us make connections between various authors that would not likely be made in a verse-by-verse study only. |
